- What is the Barbados Chamber of Commerce?
The Barbados Chamber of Commerce is the leading private sector organisation in Barbados that advocates and promotes the interest of the business community in the island. This organization also greatly assists in creating the social, economic and political stability of the country.
- What does the Chamber do?
Under an Act of Parliament (BCCI Act, 1983-10) the Chamber is a voluntary non-profit organisation charged with the responsibility of facilitating a more enabling business environment in Barbados and the CARICOM Single Market to help local businesses prosper and grow. Participation in policy development and implementation that enhances economic development in Barbados is also at the forefront of BCCI’s agenda. Additionally, the Chamber is also responsible for the Management of the Duty Free Scheme, which has become one of the key attractions to visitors shopping in Barbados.

Given that the BCCI membership spans across almost every sector of the Barbados economy, no other organisation can provide the cross-sectoral backing that the Chamber can. The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry is centrally located in its permanent home, just on the outskirts of Bridgetown. The new offices also provide conference room facilities for members who need a meeting space.

Mr. Andy Armstrong a long-standing business executive and manager in Barbados is the President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry. As President he will have a two year tenure (2010-2012).
- What projects are the Chamber working on 2010-2012?
The Chamber has taken the lead on two key projects, that will be increasingly important to the business community of Barbados over the coming years. These are Renewable Energy Project and The Bridgetown Revitilisation Initiative. Other projects on a smaller scale will be ongoing initiatives of the Chamber.

The Secretariat of BCCI has a staff of 5 led by Mrs. Lisa Gale Executive Director. The Chamber also oversees a staff of 5 at the Duty Free Facility at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

The Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry is one of the oldest organizations in Barbados. In 2010, the organisation marked 184 years of establishment It was created when Barbados still had a plantation economy and was a British colony.

The Chamber’s membership is approximately 250, spanning sectors such as legal services, international business, manufacturing and banking.
